[Solved] Workaround for Battery + Hydro Storage
I'm using HOMER to evaluate storage options/sizes for an off-grid facility that will have hydro and PV generation. The storage options include chemical (Li-ion or flow batteries) and pumped hydro. However, as of version 3.9, HOMER can only model a single storage component per simulation (with the exception of flywheel storage). I've modeled the system without the pumped hydro to estimate the amount of chemical storage needed for 0% capacity shortage and now I'd like to add pumped hydro. What's an acceptable workaround for this limitation so that the model captures the interaction of the hydro storage on the size of the chemical storage?
I'm afraid HOMER doesn't have any provision to model such a system or any work around right now. Deciding on how the dispatch algorithm compares two storage options to charge or discharge is a complicated process really and is very application specific. Sorry about the inconvenience. We are working on it.
