HOMER is creating an impossible optimization result  


I have restrained HOMER to the following:
PV must be between 200-400 kW
Battery must be between 1MWh and 3 MWh
Generator is optional
Load is 100kw constant(2400 kWh/day)

HOMER returns one design with the following parameters:
No generator
1 MWh of battery (7 hours of autonomy)
200 kW of PV
This clearly cannot work! I might be able to do it with a larger battery, but not with a 7 hour battery. Also, I definitely cannot do it with only 200 kW of solar.

Trying to understand why this is even coming up as an option. It definitely has the lowest COE, but that is because it is missing required components!

Hi Puck,


HOMER Pro performs energy balance in each time step. Size of the components depends on the load required in each time step and the power available from PV and battery. The autonomy of the battery is less most probably because of a high solar resource availability. It would make more sense when you look at the time series results.
