Multiple smaller generators vs. one large generator
I want to model a system with 20 small diesel generators which is the maximum amount allowed by the software. However when I try to run this, HOMER just crashes.
The results are very different when considering the same capacity for a single generator, when compared with 12 smaller generators (all generators having the same specifications). So clearly the correct number of diesel generators at the right sizes needs to be modelled.
Is there anything I can do about the crashing problem when lots of generators are considered.
I am having a similar issue. The offgrid site that I am looking at has a total installed capacity of 63 MW broken down into the following:
1. 45 MW of 12 x 3880 kW HFO Gensets
2. 18 MW of 15 x 1200 kW diesel Gensets
Now I would like to simulate this system with PV sizes varying from 5 MWp to 10 MWp. The load Peak load is 50 MW and average load is 40 MW. The limit in HOMER is 20 gensets, so I Need to be able to have a work around to simulate this System. Any idea is much appreciated.
If some of the generators are going to be included in all the simulations and are going to operate all the time, you can combine them and include a 'size your own' generator so that you can reduce the number of generators. You will also have to update the costs accordingly. Right now this is the only work around I can think of.
