Battery never gets charged more than 20% in a grid connected system

Hi,

I have modelled a system consisting of grid, PV, wind and Primus battery. I noticed that the battery SOC never exceeds 20% in the whole year. I have modelled the same system without the grid and the SOC works normally i.e. it reaches 100%, gets discharged and fully charged again. I am wondering why this happens with the off-grid system.

Hi Umdatul,

 

The battery doesn't charge to 100% of its total capacity because of the load following dispatch strategy. As per this strategy, charging the battery is not of priority. It is charged only when there is power left after serving the load. Try cycle charging and you will notice the battery is charged to 100%.

Thank you for your help.

I have modified the model and used the CC dispatch strategy. However, the battery is not utilised when this strategy is used. Is there any way to force the system to utilise the battery instead of importing from the grid if there is any capacity shortage?

You can write a MATLAB dispatch strategy to customize the battery usage as per your needs.
